Williams College

As a way of celebrating the careers of retiring tenured professors, Williams College creates books of pictures and memories for each professor. I was brought on to give the layout a new look and feel. I laid out and produced final files for the seven books for each professor retiring in 2022, and created a set of guidelines so that student workers could make the books for the coming years.

The above images are from a presentation I made to pitch my layout to the administration. The old layout design had almost no Williams branding, so I brought in Williams' colors and fonts, as well as creating loose guidelines that provided structure, but would be flexible for all different types of quotes and images.

The Cover design was made to evoke the spots on the Williams purple cow mascot, and took advantage of the image wrap covers by incorporating the edges and the spine.

In the end, I laid out over 500 pages to create all 7 books, and produced them through the book creation service Blurb. The books have since been sent to the retired professors, with copies residing in the Williams Library! Our arrangement next year is to bring me on to train a student worker to do the layout based on my guidelines, saving the college time and money while maintaining the identity that I created.
